Recognized for turning fragmented pharmaceutical data into structured, cited BD&L assessments.

Ferma has been named a finalist in the 2026 Fierce Life Sciences Innovation Awards, in the Data Analytics/Business Intelligence category. The awards are run by Fierce Life Sciences. Ferma’s entry focused on business development and licensing (BD&L), and winners will be announced live on November 19, 2026, at the Fierce Vanguard Gala in New York City.

Fierce describes the category as recognizing “platforms that cut through the noise, turning complex data into clear, actionable insights that drive smarter pipelines, trials, and business moves.” Two judges score each entry on effectiveness, technical innovation, competitive advantage, financial impact and true innovation. Entries must show real-world application from the past 12 to 18 months.

The BD&L Problem Behind the Entry

BD&L decides which external medicines a pharmaceutical company licenses and develops. Before committing resources to an asset, teams must assess its scientific differentiation, commercial potential and transaction feasibility.

Traditional database workflows leave that assembly to analysts: reconciling records, building deal comparables and models, and preparing recommendations. That limits how many opportunities receive a substantive evaluation.

The evidence itself can also be incomplete. An outdated competitive set can make a market look more open, make an asset look more differentiated, or send diligence toward the wrong opportunity.

What a Pipeline Database Can Miss: An IBD Example

In an internal August 2026 comparison, Ferma checked one commercial pipeline database’s results for oral small-molecule and peptide programs in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), from preclinical through Phase 3.

Programs

Programs the database returned, all listed as active

194

Of those, confirmed stopped, suspended or terminated

Programs Ferma found that the database did not return

86 (3 in Phase 3)

Database-only entries still unresolved

Ferma scored both sides without independent adjudication, and the comparison covers a single question. The full methodology and reconciliation tables are published, and readers can re-run the comparison on their own landscape.

How Ferma Approaches BD&L Intelligence

Ferma, ZoomRx’s AI-powered intelligence platform for life sciences, turns fragmented pharmaceutical data into structured asset assessments, financial models and licensing-committee materials. The entry described four connected layers:

  • Data layer: integrates clinical trials, scientific publications, conference evidence, regulatory filings, investor reports and native-language Chinese sources.
  • Knowledge graph: resolves records to the asset, trial and company, linking clinical results, development status, transaction history and competitive context.
  • Intelligence layer: applies practitioner-defined screening criteria, scoring dimensions and valuation logic. Scorecards cover portfolio fit, clinical differentiation, intellectual property, regulatory path, commercial potential, deal terms and competitive risk. Adjustable rNPV models connect epidemiology, probability of success, pricing and competitive assumptions for finance review.
  • Agentic layer: runs the research and analysis, prepares source-linked deliverables and refreshes assessments as evidence changes. Teams inspect the evidence, adjust assumptions and approve conclusions.

The same evidence base produces scorecards, Excel models and executive briefs. It supports opportunity screening, competitive landscapes, valuation, deal comparables, catalyst tracking, patent landscapes and evidence-gap analysis.

Results Shared in the Entry

  • Evaluation capacity: one large-cap pharmaceutical BD&L team reported evaluating twice as many assets in the same timeframe using Ferma.
  • Initial landscape: an expert-reviewed estimate of 40 human hours conventionally versus 4 with Ferma, including review.
  • Landscape refresh: an estimated 8 human hours conventionally versus 1 with Ferma for a limited update within the same scope.

The time estimates include human review and exclude software and run costs. Results vary with landscape scope, adoption and review requirements.

Who This Recognition Matters To

  • BD & Licensing: the entry was built around BD&L screening, valuation and committee preparation.
  • Competitive Intelligence: the same asset-level evidence underpins competitive landscapes and catalyst tracking.
  • Portfolio Strategy: consistent criteria help flag weak strategic fits and evidence gaps before deep diligence.
  • Data & AI teams: Ferma structures fragmented sources into one resolved, cited evidence base.

Fellow Finalists

The other finalists in the Data Analytics/Business Intelligence category are CluePoints (IQD, MSR and IMC), Helix (Helix Research Network) and Vysioneer Inc. (VTrial), per Fierce’s official finalist list.

What’s Next

Winners will be announced live on November 19, 2026, at the Fierce Vanguard Gala. Earlier this year, Ferma was also named a finalist in the 2026 Fierce AI Innovation Awards, Medical Affairs category.
